Sweet Gift

This precious book was given to me by a dear friend.

I am so excited to have it and read it.
It is full of wonderful prose.

I thought I would share:

Beauties of Nature.

For Nature with a universal voice
Unites to celebrate each new-born day;
And this from morn to eve, and eve to morn,
All beauty and all grace the earth adorn.

So we admire, adore and pass along,
Yet linger most where sweetest flower's are strewn,
And while we mingle in the busy throng
We often feel"'twere good to be alone,"
To meditate in nature's haunts apart
In silence and humility of heart.

O, how we yearn to understand still more
The mysteries that nature hath conceal'd;
The knowledge of her science--hidden lore,
Which unto none of us has been revealed;
Nor will it be till se have proved how true
Our trust has been in what we came to do.

Comfort

We found we needed a new mattress of late.
We decided to purchase a King size mattress this time.

With that purchase I lost my headboard as it was a Queen size.

We have loved our new King size mattress.  And yesterday it became even more beautiful.
Russ found us a King size bed at one of his haunts!!!

How lovely is this!!!!
I love it!

Thanks Russ!!

Night of the Owls

We had a Great Horned owl in our yard last night.
Obviously this  is not the owl, I took this photo from Heidi's Eagle day photos, from a couple of weeks ago.  This Great Horned owl was there, at Eagle day.

We have our Schreech Owls in their box.  We know we have one, we think we might have a pair.
But Russ was out at dusk, sitting in the yard, with his binoculars.
He spotted a Great Horned owl in the top of a pine tree.  He watched it swoop and then called me from inside.  I was able to see it in the top of the pine tree.  Only its large shape not clearly.  I did get to watch as it took off.   It is a surprisely large bird.  It has quite a wing span!

We had our chickens roaming at large yesterday. And have had them out of their pen for several days of late.

Does this Owl want a chicken?
I can hardly think of the idea that this owl might want my Schreech Owl.
Of course it does not settle well with me that he might want one of my chickens either.

No this Owl does not want my Screech Owl.  That is how I can like both Owls, and enjoy being able to have both kinds of Owls in my yard!!!!!

One Owl will not eat the other Owl, right?!

Morning Owl

Last night I heard 2 owls calling to each other.
This morning I see my owl in his box.

This is the second time I have seen him in his box.
It is no less thrilling than the first time!!!!

The sunrise was beautiful this morning, I hear a woodpecker in my front yard, the sky is clear
and the temperatures on the warmer side.

Yeah for Spring.  I think I feel it in the near future.

My owl is out sunning himself this afternoon.
2 sightings in one day!!!

And yes I do see spring in my yard this afternoon!!!

Owl

I am so excited that I cannot contain my excitement.

My owl box has an owl in it.
Heidi and Cory and their kids made an owl box for me for my birthday this year.

It is up in a tree that I can see from my kitchen window.
Last night Russ heard an owl as he came up from gathering eggs in the chicken coop.

He had me come outside and listen.  I heard the owl hoot too.

Well this morning there was an owl sitting in the hole in the owl box.

Heidi was able to capture the owl in these 2 photos.

Tell me that is not one of the coolest things you have ever seen!!!

Beautiful Day

It is a beautiful day here. Russ is home for Presidents Day.  He has been outside raking all morning.

He took this photo of Mouse on the chicken coop roof...not good when the cat is aware or interested in the chickens....

The chickens were all hard at work today laying their eggs... when Russ went down to see them.  There was even double occupancy in one of the nesting boxes...

I have boiled up today's fresh eggs to put on my salads.

Buddies

Carson told me as we were playing a game today,"I'll go easy on you".  I just about burst out laughing.  It was all I could do to contain myself!

It was a great day together.

Only One Princess

Elsie with her new peacock princess dress on...

I stopped in at Brown's for a minute this morning.  Elise and Willem were home with Heidi.  Elsie had almost a dozen new princess dresses, some friend had passed on to her.  She was in heaven trying on each dress and accessory and showing me.
Willem had to get in on the show.  He tried on one dress.  He was not as enamored with it as Elsie... the bling seemed to bother him!!!! (thankfully)  He thought he wanted it until he got it on.  Something was just wrong.

When his second dress was tried to be put, on him, he would have nothing doing!!!!  Yeah we like our boys, boys!!!

Swimming at Oma's

R&L's kids and I had fun visiting Oma & Opa today.
The kids loved swimming in their pool.

I had to keep Thomas up on the counter in their condo, to keep him from b-lining for the stairs.

It was a fun day!
